Eligible veterans can obtain an Ohio driver license (new, renewal, or duplicate) at no cost.
Qualifications
- Veteran of the United States armed forces.
- Have a 100% service-connected disability rating from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
- Be eligible for driver license issuance (i.e., have a license on record or complete all required testing, have no suspensions, present any documents that may be required for issuance)
Restrictions
- Documentation from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or Department of Defense (DoD) has to be provided during every license transaction (new, renewal, or duplicate).
- In-person application at a BMV deputy registrar license agency is required.
Documents Needed
- Applicants need one of the following:
- Letter from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, dated within the past year stating a 100% service-connected disability rating.
OR - DoD ID card stating 100% disabled American veteran.
- Any other documents needed for the first issuance, renewal, or duplicate driver license transaction.
Process
- Visit the nearest BMV deputy registrar license agency location with all necessary documents to complete the transaction.
- Allow up to 28 days to receive the requested driver license in the mail.
