ODPS Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles Administrative Hearings
ODPS | BMV
For all administrative hearings, the request must be made in writing to the address listed on the suspension notice and include the individual’s daytime phone number and BMV Case number.
For a non-compliance administrative hearing, the request must be RECEIVED by the BMV within ten days of the mail date of the Notice of Suspension. A $30 check or money order for the hearing fee, made payable to "Treasurer, State of Ohio," is required at the time the hearing request is made.
For a random selection administrative hearing, the request can be made at any time after the receipt of the "First Notice of Suspension,” until 90 days after the start date of the suspension.
For a security suspension administrative hearing, the request must be RECEIVED by the BMV within thirty days of the mail date of the Notice of Suspension.
For non-compliance and random selection administrative hearings, the purpose of the hearing is to determine whether the person did in fact have financial responsibility on the date in question, or if not, whether the person meets one of the exemptions. For security suspension hearings, the purpose of the hearing is to determine whether any possibility exists of a judgment being rendered against the driver and/or owner of the vehicle involved in the accident.
