Failure of Driver License Examination


If you fail the written portion of the test, you must wait 24 hours before taking it again. Only the section of the test you failed (laws or signs) needs to be taken again.

  1. If you fail the driving portion of the test, you must wait at least 7 days before taking it again. Only the section of the test you failed (driving or maneuverability) needs to be taken again.

  2. If you fail the written or driving test 4 times, you must purchase a new application packet from a Deputy Registrar office before testing again.


Failure After Being Authorized by Medical Case Section for Re-Examination

Ohio Revised Code Section 4507.20

All applicants will be allowed to take 4 examinations with waiting periods as listed above.

  1. A 7 day waiting period is required between failed tests and will not be waived.

  2. All testing will be done on the initial BMV letter of authorization; no further BMV authorization will be required to take the 2nd, 3rd or 4th test.

  3. A complete examination will be scheduled at the first test.

  4. If 4th test is failed, the driver must wait six (6) months to be re-examined.

    Customer must make request directly to the BMV for re-examination after the 6 month waiting period.

NOTE:

The changes in regard to medical case section authorized examinations do not affect our present testing procedures for regular Class D, Motorcycle, Motorized Bicycle, Commercial Driver License or 12 Point re-examinations.
