Payment Plan Overview
The Ohio BMV offers a driver license reinstatement fee installment plan to individuals who have met all reinstatement requirements except for paying reinstatement fees. The plan allows individuals owing $150 or more in reinstatement fees to become valid or eligible to retest for a driver license by paying a minimum of $50.00 every 30 days for as long as it takes to pay the reinstatement fees.

 

Eligibility Requirements
Customers who meet these requirements are eligible to participate in the installment plan program:

  1. You must owe at least $150 in reinstatement fees.
  2. You must have met all other reinstatement requirements except for paying reinstatement fees.
  3. You must show current proof of insurance.
  4. You must not have any pending suspensions.
  5. You are not currently on a court-ordered fee payment plan.

 

How to Enroll in the Fee Installment Plan
If you meet all eligibility requirements, you may apply to participate in the plan. When you enroll, you must submit proof of valid insurance and an initial $50.00 payment that will be applied to the reinstatement fees you owe. You must sign and submit BMV Form 1152, Application for BMV Fee Installment Plan. Failure to submit the $50.00 payment will result in denial of your application. Eligibility for the fee installment plan will be determined by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles once your application has been received. You will receive notification of an approval or denial of the fee installment plan application. If denied for the fee installment plan, the $50.00 application payment will be applied to any outstanding reinstatement fees owed. No refund will be processed.

Your application, proof of valid insurance and $50.00 payment may be submitted in person at any Regional Reinstatement Offices, a Deputy Registrar Office, or by mail to: Ohio BMV, Rev. Mgmt. / Points, P.O. Box 16521, Columbus, OH 43216-6521.

If you submit your application at a Deputy Registrar Office, you will be charged an additional $10.00 service fee with the application.

 

Fee Installment Plan Rules
If you meet the eligibility requirements, your license status will be valid, expired, or eligible to retest as long as you continue to make your minimum $50 payment every 30 days. The payment rules are as follows:

  1. The minimum amount that may be paid is $50.00 every 30 days.
  2. You may make payments as frequently as you like. However your next payment will be due within 30 days of your last payment regardless of the frequency.
  3. The Ohio BMV will not send any bills or payment reminders. However, you will be sent a payment coupon upon receipt of a payment.
  4. Payments made by mail will be considered to have been paid on the date the payment is received.

 

Payment Options
Once approved for the fee installment plan, a minimum payment of $50.00 will be due every 30 days from the last payment. A new payment coupon will be mailed upon receipt of payment. Payment options are:

  1. Pay online by visiting www.ohiobmv.gov by electronic check only.
  2. In person at any Regional Reinstatement Office by check, cash, or money order.
  3. In person at participating Deputy Registrar Agencies by check, cash, or money order. An additional $10.00 service fee will be charged.
  4. By mail to: Ohio BMV, Re: fees, P.O. Box 16520, Columbus, OH 43216-6521, by check or money order only.

 

Denial / Cancellation Policy
Your application may be denied or your installment payment plan may be cancelled for any of the following reasons:

  1. Your driving privileges are suspended or become suspended anytime during the term of the plan.
  2. You fail to make at least a $50 payment every 30 days.
  3. Any other reason determined by the BMV.
