Ohio law provides that a group of licensed "new" motor vehicle dealers
may display new motor vehicles at a motor vehicle show whenever certain conditions are
met.
PURPOSE
The primary purpose of the motor vehicle show is the exhibition of competitive
makes and models of new motor vehicles, at a place other than their licensed location, to
provide the general public the opportunity to review and inspect various makes and models
of motor vehicles at a single location (Section
4517.22 of the Ohio Revised Code).
BASIC DEALER SHOW
REQUIREMENTS
Fill
out a Motor Vehicle Show Request (forms
BMV
4445
&
4446).
This provides us with the name of the sponsor, a contact person with phone number, the
date and location of the motor vehicle show, the market area of dealers being contacted to
participate, and a listing of dealers who have agreed to participate including their
dealer permit numbers.
There must be at least 2 participating dealers, displaying competitive makes and
models to hold a show.
The sponsor designates the market area; whether as vast as the entire state or
just a 10 mile radius of the proposed show site. However, all new motor vehicle dealers
within the sponsor defined market area must be invited to participate in the event.
A sample copy of a letter of invitation to the dealers must be submitted along
with the application.
The application is to be received and permission granted, not less than 30 days
prior to the planned opening date.
No contracts shall be signed, deposits taken, or sales consummated at the
location of a motor vehicle show. See items (H) and (I) of section
4517.22
of the Ohio Revised Code for exception.
