Dealer primarily engaged in the business of leasing one or more motor vehicles for personal, family, or household use. A subsidiary, corporation, or other business entity established for the purpose of leasing back to the parent, sister or associated company, and the general public is not involved, DOES NOT qualify for a leasing dealer's license.

• Must have an easily recognizable place of business.

• An office of at least 180 square feet, which shall be kept in a neat and orderly fashion. The office must include a desk, three chairs, filing cabinets, facsimile machine, in service, a telephone in service at all times, listed and answered in the dealership's name, and lighting and heat sufficient for an office.

• The office shall not be used for storage or other utility area.

• A sign showing the exact name of the business, including any registered trade names, prominently displayed and properly maintained. Letters on the sign must be at least six inches high. The business sign shall be posted in a conspicuous place where the general public has access, at or near the entrance to the building, and at or near the entrance of the office.

• Business hours must be prominently displayed. The business hours shall be posted in a conspicuous place where the general public has access. The business must be open and attended during the posted business hours, by an owner, partner, president of the corporation, member of a limited liability company, trustee of a business trust, or a licensed salesperson.

• Physical Requirements Checklist

• Form BMV 4320 - application must be completed and notarized.

• Financial statement information, indicating a net worth of at least $10,000.

• Photograph of the sign and office at the business location.

• BMV Form 4452 (Instructions Only) - Civilian Identification Card must be completed by the applicant's local police department and the waiver must be signed by the applicant. The civilian identification card will be forwarded to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation & Identification for a state-wide record check.  Acceptable fingerprint card(s) may be obtained only by contacting the Dealer Licensing Section at (614) 752-7634.
  
  *Fingerprinting option: In lieu of submitting a fingerprint card and $15.00 fee you may elect to visit one of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles Regional Service Centers, National Background Check, Incorporated or Secure Check, Incorporated facilities and have your prints electronically scanned.

Any felony conviction or any misdemeanor conviction related to dealing in motor vehicles is reason for the Bureau of Motor Vehicles to DENY the application.

You may apply for special license plates to be used in conjunction with your leasing dealer license. The license plates may only be used on motor vehicles being demonstrated for the purpose of lease.
